Description: |
This is the audio track (track 2) for the popular song 'We Nyamazane Yiyo Ehlala Ehlathini' (‘A animal lives in the forest’) from the CD, titled 'Songs of the APF', produced by the Anti-Privatisation Forum(APF) in 2007. Stretching all the way back to the early years of South Africa’s liberation struggle songs have accompanied almost every imaginable form of protest. Given that the APF was born out of the womb of liberation struggles past as well as the realities of the post-apartheid, old and new songs have been sung at all APF and community affiliate public actions as well as internal organisational events. Songs and the chanting of slogans have been a source of energy in these struggles. By 2007, the APF media sub-committee decided to produce a CD entitled, “Songs of the APF” so as to record and celebrate the achievements of the APF as well as to appreciate the main challenge confronting the APF, namely the rebuilding of a mass movement of the poor and workers that can generalise resistance against neo-liberalism in South Africa.. The songs recorded and presented on the CD (available in the larger archive) have given communities and members of the APF a true sense of solidarity and determination in their ongoing struggles, a representation of the forging and nurturing of various artistic forms of expression which reflect on present conditions of struggle as well as hopes, desires and dreams. Hundreds of copies of the CD, which was recorded in a backyard studio and whose songs are performed by APF activists, were produced and distributed both locally and internationally.
