This is a transcript of the TRC Section 29 in-camera inquiry of Mr Booi, held in East London on 6 April 1998.
Mr Booi was a colonel in the Transkei Police force who retired in 1994. He worked in the security branch from 1969 to 1990 where he investigated banned organizations like the ANC and PAC. This transcript investigates Mr Booi’s knowledge of the operations of the Transkei Security police and their relationship with the South African police; as well the operations of askaris in Transkei.
The record is in English however Mr Booi’s responses have been translated from Xhosa
This record was released by the Department of Justice and Constitutional Development in response to Access to Information Act (PAIA) request SAH-2013-DOJ-0003.
The first release of this record on 2015/01/12 had redactions on: p.53-54; p.59. The subsequent release on 2015/12/17 by DOJ was a clean copy.
