INVITATION: SAHA Educators' workshop on the SS Mendi & teaching (about) war
As part of the ongoing SAHA in the classroom workshop series for history educators, SAHA will be hosting a workshop on teaching (about) war, using the tragedy of the sinking of the SS Mendi during World War 1 as a case study.
A new SAHA resource booklet for educators draws on primary sources about the SS Mendi in order to enable educators interested in working with learners to:
- Set up historical enquiries working with the official and unofficial stories of South Africa’s involvement in the First World War;
- Consider the commemoration of war, and what this can tell us about the complexities of teaching war and peace.
Date: Saturday, 20 February 2016 Time: 9am - 1pm Venue: SAHA offices at Constitution Hill, Braamfontein

You can also RSVP by phone by calling 011 718 2560 and please do note that the workshop will be limited to 20 participants.
