GALLERY: 1994 Election posters

 "A number of ‘struggle artists’ found work spreading the message about democracy and the constitution, human rights, and voting procedures for a post-apartheid South Africa" (Red on Black: the story of the South African poster movement).

Many South Africans had not voted before and one of the ways of getting people to go and vote was through election posters. Some of the posters sought to educate people about the electoral procedure. While other posters encouraged people to vote for a democratic, non-racial, non-sexist South Africa.

This selection of election posters comes from the SAHA poster collection AL2446, reminding us of the 1^st democratic elections on the 27 April 1994.
