The Free Willem Ratte campaign, June 1996. This right-wing veteran soldier was incarcerated after he laid siege to one of the old forts outside Pretoria. When Ratte, a former war veteran from 32 Battalion, was imprisoned for his right-wing activities, his hunger strike in jail activated a major campaign in right-wing circles to have him released. This selection of images show well-known leaders like Eugene Terreblanche, Manie Maritz and Ratte's wife, Zaanzie, with scores of sympathisers.
