Less than a year after South Africa's first democratic elections in 1994, the Kumleben Commission of Enquiry started its hearing in Durban into the involvement of the previous government in the illegal trade in ivory and rhino horn. Details of the old SADF's involvement in the smuggling of contraband from Angola to fund the civil war in that country was exposed during this judicial commission of enquiry, August 1995.
