Description: |
This poster is an offset litho in black, produced by the STP for COSAS in 1985, Johannesburg. This poster refers to COSAS and how they used the occasion of the 16 June to emphasise the Freedom Charter's call for an open education system. Additionally it called for a demand for the SADF to leave the townships- shortly after this poster was produced, COSAS was banned. The text reads: "JUNE 16 : THE DOORS OF LEARNING AND CULTURE SHALL BE OPENED TO ALL : COSAS SAYS: SADF OUT OF OUR SCHOOLS AND TOWNSHIPS". Digitised by Specialised Archival Solutions in 2009. Reproduced in "Images of Defiance: South African Resistance posters in the 1980s" on page 111 (number 201) of the 1991 SAHA / Ravan Press edition and the 2004 SAHA / STE Publishers edition. It also appears on page 149 of “Red on Black: The Story of the South African Poster Movement”, SAHA / STE Publishers, 2007, as well as the
SAHA virtual exhibition - 'The Future is Ours: Commemorating Youth in the Struggle'. |
